Harvey Firestone founded Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in 1900 to supply pneumatic tires for wagons, buggies, and other forms of wheeled transportation common in the early Twentieth Century. After seeing the huge potential in automobile tires, Firestone started mass production of automobile tires. By using relationships, Firestone was able to become the original equipment supplier to Ford Motor Company, and continue to produce tires for the replacement market growing his business until 1988. In 1988, Firestone was purchased by Bridgestone Tire Company, and is still owned by Bridgestone today.
Firestone offers several different types of tires for all types of vehicle. For the touring vehicle, the Affinity Touring Series was developed. The Affinity Touring Series allows customers to buy a product that is great looking and affordable. A solid center rib coupled with an optimized shoulder element angle and shape, give the tire a quiet ride. For wet traction, the Affinity series has wide flow-through grooves giving the tire great performance.
For Light Trucks, the Firestone Tire Company produced the Destination A/T with UNI-T Technology. The Destination A/T tire was developed for the driver who wants to go wherever the road takes them, no matter if the road is paved or not. The design of this tire uses UNI-T Technology to adapt to travel in wet and dry conditions, giving the driver more confidence when handling and breaking in wet weather. Additional technology was used for this tire to ensure a quiet and comfortable ride.
FireHawk GT with UNI-T was created by Firestone to compete in the Performance Tire Market. This tire has a unique wide footprint that improves the way the tire handles corners. An Asymmetric Pattern provides optimal performance in various conditions based on a tread pattern that varies for shoulder to shoulder. Silica was incorporated in the FireHawk to improve traction on wet road surfaces by increasing flexibility of the tread compound. To reduce road noise, Firestone injected their signature Veri-Pitch. Veri-Pitch uses variations in angles and sizes of tread elements, improving the sound that the tire makes while moving. This tire is completed with a Gold Pledge Limited Warranty, with a 30-day buy and try guarantee.
